This subseries consists of both handwritten and typed drafts of poetry written by Gauss. All of the poetry is undated. Though there are numerous poems in typed, handwritten, and annotated forms, it is unclear when and how often Gauss wrote poetry and what plans he had for his poems.
The poetry remains in original order.
No accruals are expected.

These papers were processed with a general operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.

This collection was processed by Casey Babcock in June-July 2007. Finding aid written by Casey Babcock in July of 2007.
In 2022, restrictions on two Ernest Hemingway letters where researchers were required to use surrogates were lifted as part of a restrictions review project.

- Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process.
