The collection consists of articles, correspondence, and related materials on astronomy of Pierce, a professor at Princeton. The collection contains mainly correspondence between him and academic colleagues, astronomical societies, and scholarly journals, but also includes typescripts of articles on astronomy for the yearbooks of the Encyclopaedia Britannica (1938-1946) and Collier's Encyclopedia (1937-1949), and reviews and errata of his book Marine and Air Navigation, co-authored with John Q. Stewart.
