Description:

The collection consists of Russell A. Fraser's papers concerning his biography of R. P. Blackmur, A Mingled Yarn: The Life of R. P. Blackmur, which was published by Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich in 1981. A significant portion of the collection comprises Fraser's correspondence with friends, family, and associates of Blackmur. Correspondents include Elizabeth Blackmur, Malcolm Cowley, R. D. Darrell, Tessa Horton, Lincoln Kirstein, Robert Penn Warren, John Marshall, Katharine Brown, and Allen Tate. Also present is one letter (1949) by R. P. Blackmur to John Marshall and additional materials collected by Fraser, including a set of page proofs for Blackmur's volume of poetry, From Jordan's Delight (1937), Blackmur's typescript of an essay called "Phoenix in Ashes," and printed copies of published writings by and about Blackmur from the 1920s-1970s.

Archival Appraisal Information:

Five bound volumes of photocopies of typescripts were transferred to the ReCAP circulating collections at the point of accessioning in 2018.
