Abstract

Consists of correspondence, articles, and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings of Howard McClenahan (Princeton Class of 1894) relating to his trip to England, Holland, and Belgium in 1914-1915 on a mission sponsored by Princeton University to examine and report on the amount and effectiveness of civilian relief provided for Belgium.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of correspondence, articles, and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings of McClenahan (Princeton Class of 1894) relating to his trip to England, Holland, and Belgium in 1914-1915 on a mission sponsored by Princeton University to examine and report on the amount and effectiveness of civilian relief provided for Belgium. Also present are several copies (1913-1914) of his Princeton class publication "The '94 War Cry" and miscellaneous clippings (1917) about life at Princeton.

In addtion, there are letters to McClenahan from James Bryce Bishop, Herbert E. Pyle, A. E. Shipley, and others, as well as some official documents (1914-1920).

McClenahan, Howard, 1872-1935

Howard McClenahan (Princeton Class of 1894) joined the Princeton University faculty as an instructor in physics in 1897 and became a full professor in 1906. In 1912, McClenahan was appointed dean of the College, a position which he held until he resigned in 1925 to assume the position of secretary of the Benjamin Franklin Memorial and Franklin Institute Museum.
