- Description:
The collection consists of letters and autographs of over 120 English, American, and a few European actors, actresses, playwrights, theatrical managers, directors, critics, and others connected with the theater from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Included are letters of Maud Adams, Margaret Anglin, Lawrence Barrett, Daniel Frohman, Olive Logan, and the Sotherns of the United States; George Arliss, Sir Gerald Du Maurier, Harley Granville-Barker, John M. Morton, Viola Tree, and Benjamin Webster of England; and Jacques Copeau of France. In addition, there are two autograph albums. There is also an alphabetical card file (in two boxes) that contains original autographs of theatrical performers and/or index entries to the locations of their autographs in other theater collections in the Manuscripts Division.
