Description:

The collection consists of selected files from the offices of Farrar & Rinehart, Inc., New York City publishers: 1) Ernest Hemingway correspondence, 1951-1952 (6 letters by him, 9 letters to him), with Rinehart & Company concerning the publication of Philip Young's biography Ernest Hemingway (1952); 2) Ezra Pound material, 1932-1951, consisting of 3 letters by him, 2 letters to him, 2 contracts, and approximately 70 letters by the staff of Farrar & Rinehart and others primarily concerning various sections of Pound's Cantos.

Farrar & Rinehart

Farrar & Rinehart (1929–1946) was a United States book publishing company founded in New York. Farrar & Rinehart enjoyed success with both nonfiction and novels, notably, the landmark Rivers of America Series and the first ten books in the Nero Wolfe corpus of Rex Stout. In 1943 the company was recognized with the first Carey-Thomas Award for creative publishing presented by Publishers Weekly. The firm later became Rinehart & Company, Inc.

In 2022, restrictions on the Ernest Hemingway correspondence where researchers were required to use surrogates were lifted as part of a restrictions review project.
