Scope and Contents

The collection consists of selected papers of Patmore. Included are typescripts for The Feverish Interlude, published as Private History: An Autobiography (1960); The Star and the Crescent: An Anthology of Modern Turkish Poetry (1946), chosen and translated by Patmore, with a few translations by Lord Dunsany; and Aegean Interlude: Pages from a Greek Journal, 1945-1946, an unpublished book. Also present are manuscripts for a poem and two articles, and a commonplace book (1929-1931) containing notes on interviews with Michael Arlen, Rosita Forbes, Rebeccca West, W. B. Maxwell, Paul Robeson, Tallulah Bankhead, Cecil Beaton, and others.

Great-grandson of the noted English poet Coventry Patmore, Derek Patmore was not only a poet but also a journalist, translator, and writer on interior decoration.
