This annual event explores First Amendment issues that have been fractious in the past year. The format of the talk is one in which the moderator proposes hypothetical scenarios to the panelists based on real life cases. Panelists share their views on free speech by discussing decisions they would make in the proposed scenarios. As the moderator Nadine Strossen notes, the focus of this panel is free speech topics on "crime and violence", with particular leanings in the topics that pertain to writers. Barney Frank, Bruce Fein, Gay Talese, Grace Paley, Lesley Stahl, Robert Stone, and Stephen L. Carter participate.
