Collection Description & Creator Information
- Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a group of 25 letters, 1818-1833, addressed to John Freeman Milward Dovaston (1782-1854) at Salisbury and London, England, by his friend and fellow author Ralph Rylance. Dovaston entitled these letters "Rylance's Visions," since most of the letters relate a dream or fictional encounter with William Shakespeare and other past and contemporary literary figures, such as John Milton , Lord Byron, Samuel Coleridge, and Walter Scott, none of whom (in Rylance's opinion) could compare with Shakespeare.
