Abstract
Consists of papers of Mario Vitti, an Italian author, translator, and educator specializing in modern Greek literature. Included are letters (1947-1992) from Greek, Turkish, Italian, and other poets and authors, and manuscripts of Greek authors collected by Vitti.

The manuscripts of Greek and Turkish poets and writers collected by Vitti include poetry of Melih Cevdet Anday translated into French by Sabahattin Eyuboğlu, poetry of Necati Cumali and İlhan Berk translated into French by Tahsin Sarac, poetry of Andreas Empeirikos and Miltos Sachtourēs translated into Italian by Mario Vitti, various drafts of the novel Antipoiēsis Archēs (1979) by Alexandros Kotzias, and several manuscripts of various works by Odysseas Elytēs, including autobiographical material, a copy of his speech "Discours à Stockholme" on receiving the Nobel Prize for literature in 1979, typescripts of these collections of poetry, Prosanatolismoi (1936), Hēlios Ho Prōtos (1943?) and Asma Hēroiko kai Penthimo gia ton Chameno Anthypolochago tēs Alvanias (1971). Also present are a few photographs of Greek writers such as Nikos Kasdaglēs, Menēs Koumantareas and Giannēs Skarimpas.

Acquired with matching funds provided by the Program in Hellenic Studies with the support of the Stanley J. Seeger Hellenic fund.

- Processing Information
This collection was edited by Kalliopi Balatsouka in 2011 and 2023. The materials in Series 4: one boxed set with detailed autograph annotations and one boxed set with coded underlinings of Prosanatolismoi (1970), Hēlios Ho Prōtos (1971), and Asma Hērōiko kai Penthimo gia ton Chameno Anthypolochago tēs Alvanias (1971) were restricted until 2001. The restriction has since been lifted. No photocopies were provided to researchers during the lifetime of Vitti. Mario Vitti died on February 14, 2023. The restriction has since been lifted.
