These writings consist of poems and two short prose pieces that Kunitz submitted for assignments at Harvard College. A few may have been written after Kunitz earned his master's degree in 1927, for they bear a New York City address. A fine example of Kunitz's earliest work, most of the items bear the professor's comments, and in many cases, a grade. It appears that for the earlier poems Kunitz signed his poems "Apeneck Sweeney," though later dropped this moniker.
