Contains selected correspondence of lawyer and bibliohile James H. Pershing, as well as notebooks documenting his library.

Description:

The collection contains correspondence received by Pershing regarding his book The Different States of the First Edition of Paradise Lost (London: The Bibliographical Society, 1941) and the public sale of his libray, as well as seven notebooks bibliographically documenting his library: "Descriptive Catalogue, English and American Poetry, Mainly First Editions" (Vols. I-V), "Vol. VI, Prose Works, Mainly First Editions," and "Descriptive Catalogue, Vol. VII, Miscellaneous." Correspondents include H. Buxton Forman, Lawrance Thompson, book collectors, and librarians and directors of leading American and British libraries.

The correspondence is arranged chronologically, followed by the notebooks in volume number order.
