Abstract

Consists of an autograph manuscript journal kept by naval surgeon, Dr. James Croxall Palmer (1811-1883), during his tour aboard the Macedonian as a member of the Mediterranean Squadron from 1858-1860.

The collection contains an autograph manuscript journal kept by Dr. James C. Palmer, a veteran of the Wilkes exploring expedition, during his tour as a surgeon aboard the Macedonian as a member of the Mediterranean Squadron from 1858-1860. Also includes a photocopy of the entire journal and an undated photograph of James C. Palmer.

Palmer, James Croxall, 1811-1883

James Croxall Palmer was an American naval surgeon. He served with the exploring expedition of Lieutenant Charles Wilkes and in the Civil War under Rear Admiral David G. Farrugut, and ultimately became surgeon-general of the Navy.

Purchase, acquired with matching funds provided by the Program in Hellenic Studies with the support of Stanley J. Seeger Hellenic Fund, in 2004 .
