Scope and Contents

Consists of 8 large albumen prints (each approximately 26 x 34 cm.), mounted, in an accordion fold (total dimensions approximately 26.2 x 272.5 cm.), depicting an elevated view of the city of Constantinople and the Golden Horn from Seraskier, or Beyazit, Tower. The church of Saint Sophia, boats sail along the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus, which features two bridges, and the domes and minarets of several mosques can be seen among the rooftops of the city buildings. Included also are the mosque of Sultan Suleiman, the mosque of Sultan Ahmed, most of the Golden Horn, the Topkapi Palace, and the mosque of Sultan Osman. Inscription: (recto, mount) lower center, below plates five and six, printed in black ink: "PANORAMA DE CONSTANTINOPLE / VUE / prise de la / TOUR DE SÉRASKIÉRAT / par G. Berggren. Prints are kept together in an enclosure with the gilted title on the cover, "PANORAMA DE CONSTANTINOPLE." Dimensions closed: 41.5 x 42 cm.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process.
