Collection Description & Creator Information
The colletion consists of papers of American art collector Charles M. Shipman. Included are correspondence (1882-1916) between Shipman and various artists, most notably Ralph Albert Blakelock, George de Forest Brush, Frederic Stuart Church, and Elliott Daingerfield, and art societies and institutions; a journal of Lillie Brush, sister of George de Forest Brush; photographs of paintings by artists of Shipman's acquaintance; clippings about these artists and their works and reproductions of paintings of interest to Shipman; birch bark-bound lists of George de Forest Brush's works; and printed material, much of it related to exhibitions of Brush's work. Among the photographs is a large advertisement (ca. 1888) for Duke Cigarettes that features Lillie Brush.
