The collection consists of thirty-seven letters (1917) to Butler from several former students undergoing training in the U.S. armed forces during World War I. Many of the letters are written on Army and Navy Young Men's Christian Association stationery; one bears the Princeton Flying School letterhead and is accompanied with a Princeton Aviation Corps envelope.
