Consists primarily of correspondence of Donald Goodchild, who was secretary of the American Council of Learned Societies in Washington, D.C.

The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, and printed material of Donald Goodchild. The correspondence chiefly concerns Goodchild's resignation from the American Council of Learned Societies. Correspondents include Jacques Barzun, Louis I. Bredvold, William C. DeVane, Lewis Hanke, Nobutaka Ike, Paul Oskar Kristeller, Jakob A. O. Larsen, Waldo G. Leland, Henry Allen Moe, William Nitze, Charles Osgood, Stanley Pargellis, Paul Arthur Schilpp, Datus C. Smith Jr., K. P. Wang, Thomas G. Wiener, E. B. White, and Robert H. Williams. The manuscripts are mostly unsigned. The collection also includes autographed, typed, and printed poems by Goodchild as well as several letters addressed to Goodchild's wife, Mayna.

Acquisition:

3 Letters and essay by Goodrich are a gift of Chirstopher Hatch in 2008. Goodchild's poems were a gift of Harold Fowler, Princeton Class of 1930, in July 1948 . AM13717, 21981, 2009-31.

Custodial History

The collection was formed as a result of a Departmental practice of combining into one collection material of various accessions relating to a particular person, family, or subject.
