Consists of selected family papers of Princeton resident and historian Henry Ewing Hale.
Collection Description & Creator Information
- Description:
The collection consists of selected correspondence, documents, manuscripts, genealogical information, excerpts of sermons, ephemera, and memorabilia of Henry Ewing Hale and his family. Some of the material is related to the Civil War and to the family's participation in World War I. The documents include tax bills, accounts, Princeton deeds and indentures, insurance documents, the last will and testament of John Maclean (10th president of Princeton), medical licenses, and primary school certificates. Also included is a typescript signed by Hale of an address given at the Princeton Historical Society on March 19, 1945, titled "The Princeton Cavalry Troop, Princeton, New Jersey, 1861-1863." The ephemera and memorabilia include stickers, pamphlets, cards, and metal buttons.

Henry E. Hale, Sr. (1840-1925, Princeton Class of 1860), was a farmer of Princeton Township, New Jersey. Dr. Henry E. Hale, Jr. (1869-1946, Princeton Class of 1892), was a physician and local historian of Princeton.

The materials of the collection were given over a number of years by Dr. Henry E. Hale II, Princeton Class of 1892. Various AM.
