Collection Overview
Collection Description & Creator Information
- Description:
The collection consists of one hundred and seventeen black-and-white, silver gelatin prints (6.5 x 5 in.) of the destruction and the aftermath caused by the earthquake in Messina, Italy, in 1908. The photographs are divided into 2 groups. One group consists of forty-seven photographs with a white border. Most are numbered, though the photographs do not represent a complete numbered set. They are dated, and each print bears location information either printed or handwritten in Italian. The second group consists of seventy photographs with no white borders. They are not dated, and the only information of the location is written in pencil on the verso of each print, also in Italian. A few of these photographs have printed on the verso "Guglielmo Schlatter, Catania."
