Abstract

Consists of manuscript drafts of two articles by nineteenth-century American editor Edmund Morford.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of two autograph drafts of articles by Morford with holograph corrections and annotations. One article (ca. 1828) is ""An Historical Analysis of the Causes Back of the Present Swing to Christian Religion," written on 35 leaves of various sizes. The other (ca. 1830) is "A Consideration of Modern Tendencies in Education, Politics, Science, and Industry" and consists of 30 leaves of various sizes. The titles have been supplied by the donor.

Morford

Edmund Morford graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) in 1797, and also received his A.M. degree from the College in 1830. He lived in Charleston, South Carolina, where he kept a bookstore and distinguished himself as a political writer. He was founder and editor of the Charleston Mercury.
