Eighteen ALsS; four TLsS; a presentation carbon copy to Kermode of a typed poem by Spender to Kermode titled Four Sketches for Herbert Read, dated November 30, 1968; copies of letters regarding forming a new magazine; a copy of a letter sent to Sam Sylvester regarding Spender's controversial biography Stephen Spender - A Portrait with Background, dated August 18, 1992; photocopy of a statement signed by Kermode, Spender, and Nigel Dennis as co-editors for Encounter refusing to apply for a grant from the Whitney Foundation; photocopies of articles about Spender; and newspaper clippings regarding Encounter scandal.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
