Description:

The collection consists of selected official and legal documents in Ottoman Turkish, Greek, and Arabic, such as dowry agreements, property transactions, deeds for land, contracts, receipts, court orders for payments, and promissory notes, accounts, and notes of money borrowed. Some of the documents are marked with a Tuğra, or the Turkish royal cipher, and others refer to the Greek island of Kos. One document, dated August 25, 1926, and addressed to the court of his Royal Highness Fu'ad I King of Egypt, is a court order for an individual to pay another a certain sum of money; otherwise the court will seize that person's possessions. Some of the documents are enirely handwritten, and some are printed but with the names, dates, and the details of the cases added in manuscript`.
