Description:

The collection consists chiefly of correspondence of the British poet William Watson with his publisher, Grant Richards. Additionally, there is some correspondence between Watson's brother Robert and Richards. Other correspondents include Mrs. R. Boyle, Michael Field, John Grier Hibben (Princeton Class of 1882), and Arthur Machen. In his correspondence, Watson discusses some of his works such as Pencraft: A Pleas for the Older Ways (1916.) There are four telegrams to Richards regarding the printing of Watson's Excursions in Criticism with the responses of the publishers Richards and Elkin Mathews. Also included is an autographed portrait image of Watson (from a photograph), page proofs of Excursions in Criticism, and clippings about Watson and Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
