- Description:
This is an open collection of documents and manuscripts (some official) from several European countries, including England, France, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Poland, Ireland, and Switzerland. Most of the documents shed light on daily life or on official, political, religious, or colonial matters in Europe between the 16th and the 19th centuries. They include marriage certificates, deeds, bills of sale, indictments, accounts, patents, passports, power of attorney, appointments, indentures, orders, reports, law cases, purchase agreements, petitions, warrants, extracts of meetings, last will and testaments, papal decrees, and a mansucript of the Comédie Française for King Louis XV. Some of the names associated with the material include Marie Antoinette, Henry II, King of France, Baron Thomas Fairfax, Charles IX, King of France, Louis XIV and Louis XVI, Kings of France, Mary Stuart, Queen of the Scots, Mary II, Queen of England, John, 2nd Earl of Rochester, Queen Victoria of England, Albert, Prince Consort of Queen Victoria, Sir Henry Carew, Sir George Villiers Buckingham, George III, King of England, Maximillian I, Holy Roman Emperor, Cardinal Rohan, and many more monarchs, sovereigns, dignitaries, and officials, as well as common individuals.
Also included are documents about Morocco in Portuguese.

The collection was formed as a result of a Departmental practice of combining into one collection material of various accessions relating to a particular person, family or subject.
