- Description:
The collection consists of selected letters of authors and publishers sent to Barton Currie and his wife, Florence. Correspondents include the author Edward William Bok, the Philadelphia publisher Cyrus Hermann Kotzschmar Curtis, and novelist Joseph Crosby Lincoln and his wife Florence; one of the latter's missives is a Christmas card with a poem titled "Christmas A.D. 1940." There are also letters from author A. Edward Newton and from novelist Booth Tarkington and his wife Susanah. In his letter dated October 17, 1932, Tarkington thanks Currie for publishing Booth Tarkington, A Bibliography. There is a Christmas card from Frederic Franklyn Van de Water, with a printed poem, signed "Dougal, the Van de Water's terrier," as well as correspondence between A. Edward Newton and Nelson Doubelday regarding the latter having employed Curtis as editor for Doubleday, Doran & Co.
Also included is a copy of a drawing of Booth Tarkington, which is inscribed by him to Currie and dated September 1926.
