- Description:
The collection consists of photographs taken by F. Jay Haynes, assembled from various sources. A photograph album consists of 48 albumen prints of various Yellowstone National Park sites, including the first winter photographs of Yellowstone, which Haynes took in 1887, along with some scenes along the Columbia River in Oregon, and other photographs. There is also an 1886 album containing an additional 15 albumen prints of sites in Yellowstone. Stereographs from the late 1870s through the 1880s include views of Yellowstone National Park, the route of the Northern Pacific Railway, and wheat farmers in the Dakota Territory. There are also photographs from the opening of the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1883 which include images of a Crow delegation who attended the opening activities.
