Abstract
A bound volume of the complete manuscript of "Memoirs of Lord Bolingbroke" by British lawyer and historian George Wingrove Cooke (1814-1865).

- Description:
This bound volume consists of the complete manuscript of George Wingrove Cooke's first book, Memoirs of Lord Bolingbroke, written while he was still a student. Also included is a letter from Cooke to John Wilson Croker, reviewer of the Quarterly who had given Cooke a very severe review on the book's first appearance. A clipping of the letter, which was printed in the Courier on October 19, 1835, is attached to the upper endpapers.

Cooke, George Wingrove, 1814-1865
George Wingrove Cooke (1814-1865) was a British lawyer and whig historian and biographer. He was born in Bristol and studied at Jesus College, Oxford where he obtained his bachelor's degree in 1834. While attending Jesus College, Cooke also studied law at the University of London. He was called to the bar in 1835, the same year he published his first book, Memoirs of Lord Bolingbroke, a two-volume biography.
