For preservation reasons, original analog
and digital media may not be read or played back in the
reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media
but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog
audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality
standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests
are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note,
the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks
to as long as several months and there may be financial costs
associated with the process.

Collection consists of three individually bound horoscopes, circa 1678, in German and some Latin, all prepared for Baron Alexander von Enke (1650-87), who served in the army of the Electorate of Saxony and fought against the Ottoman Turks during the Great Turkish War (1683-1699). Von Enke died of a fever on the Ionian Greek island of Zakynthos (Zante) in 1687. Johann Henrich Voigt (1613-1691), an astronomer, astrologer, and almanac-compiler, who lived in Stade (a city north of Hamburg) and other places, prepared two of the volumes. The author of the third is unknown.

The first horoscope (no. 1), prepared by Johann Henrich Voigt sometime during the 1670s or 1680s, includes a contemporary biographical note on inside front cover: "Joh. Henrich Vogts Nativitat über den H. Baron Alexander von Enken welcher zu Bremen 1650 d. 7 July gebohrn und 1687 im Martio auff der insul Zante an einem hitzgen Fieber gestorben als Chur Sächsischer Cammerherr und General Major und Chef der Chur Sächsischen Auxiliar Truppen in Morea…"
Specifics for the volume are as follows: 14 folios, with modern foliation in pencil (19.5 x 16.0 cm). Includes full-page natal chart (in brown and red), one table, and three textual overlays. Contemporary red paper wrapper. [fol. 1r] "Christmassige Nativitat oder Geburts-Beschreibung ... [fol. 2v] Judicium Generale de Naturalibus. Kurtze Betrachtung der XII Hauser und deren Beschaffenheiten ... [fol. 9r] Judicium Speciale von den Directionibus Auff die Jahre und Monat berechnet ..."
The second horoscope (no. 2), also prepared by Johann Henrich Voigt, is dated 1678. [fol. A recto] The following is noted: "Gründliches undt gantz außfürliches Judicium Chiromantico physiognomico Astronomicum Horoscopon oder nativitat ... zu großeren Nützen des Leibes undt der Seelen beschrieben… Anno 1678."
Specifics for the volume are as follows: 38 folios, with original foliation in brown ink [A-B, 1-7, 1-27] (20.3 x 16.3 cm). Includes full-page Radix and double-page quadratic Radix and some tables. Fol. B recto identifies him as "M. B." (i.e. "Monsieur Maron") and gives his birth date as 7 June 1650, rather than 7 July 1650 as given in no. 1.
The author of the third volume (no. 3), "Judicium Chiromantico Physiognomico Astrologicum...," is unknown.
Specifics for the volume are as follows: 10 folios, with modern foliation in pencil (20.0 x 16.5 cm). Outer bifolium serves as cover or wrapper. This horoscope for "Herr Baron" dates from ca. 1677 and includes numbered chapters with titles, "I. Vom Leben undt Todt," "II. Vom Gemüth undt Sitten," "III. Vom Reichthumb," "IV. Von die Ehre," and "V. Von den Ehestand."
