Abstract

Consists of the correspondence of C. Leroy Ellenberger, one-time advocate and now critic of Immanuel Velikovsky, which relate to an article he published in the journal Kronos regarding the publication of Velikovsky's Stargazers and Gravediggers: Memoirs to Worlds in Collision (1983).

The collection consists of letters to and from Ellenberger related to an article he published in the journal Kronos that focused on the then-recent publication of Velikovsky's Stargazers and Gravediggers: Memoirs to Worlds in Collision (1983). Correspondents include those affiliated with Macmillan Publishers and academics who had published reviews of Worlds in Collision upon its publication in 1950: Freeman Dyson, Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker, J. Randall Williams, George Platt Brett, E. M. Thorndike, Charles L. Skelley, Henry B. McCurdy, Wasley S. Krogdahl, and Frank K. Edmondson. Also included is a copy of a letter from Immanuel Velikovsky to Freeman Dyson.

Ellenberger, C. Leroy

Charles Leroy Ellenberger (born 1942) was a one-time advocate and now critic of controversial psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and author, Immanuel Velikovsky and his works on catastrophism. Ellenberger served as senior editor of the Velikovskian journal Kronos; but around 1984, he began publishing criticisms, having concluded that Velikovsky's scientific claims were baseless.
