Description:

Consists of business correspondence from F. G. Browne on behalf of the Publishing Department at A.C. McClurg & Co.'s Chicago office to the firm's London-based literary agent C. F. (Charles Francis) Cazenove. There are 47 letters from 1905 and 1906 with topics including the sale of American titles in England, obtaining English copyrights, financial accounts between the two parties, requests for information about the standing of the British book trade, and other matters related to publishing. Several letters pertain to Cazenove's commission for the placement of W. E. B. Du Bois's The Souls of Black Folk; obtaining English contracts for Marah Ellis Ryan's For the Soul of Rafael and C. Bryson Taylor's Nicanor, Teller of Tales; and a financial dispute with Richard Marsh (Richard Bernard Heldmann). Also present are several loose items, including an advance proof of the firm's Fall 1905 order list, a typed page of American reviews of For the Soul of Rafael, and a draft table of contents for Historic Illinois by Randall Parrish.
