Collection Description & Creator Information

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of files kept by the music publishing company, Broude Brothers Limited, on Russian composer Arthur-Vincent Lourié (1892-1966). Included is a handwritten score and copies of Funeral Games in Honor of Chronos, which Lourié completed in 1964, along with a letter from Arthur Lourié to Mr. Broude regarding its printing, as well as a music copyist's handwritten score and published parts for "The Blackamoor Suite" (1961), from the opera The Blackamoor of Peter the Great. One set of parts that are marked-up appears to have been used by an orchestra conducted by Christoph Eschenbach.

Collection Creator Biography:

Broude Brothers, Limited

For three quarters of a century, Broude Brothers Limited was one of the leading music publishers and retailers in the Unites States. While the Broude family still maintains ownership of the independent firm, its retail operations, which had served institutions, performing organizations, and individuals, and which supplied both Broude publications and those of music publishers throughout the world, were recently acquired by Theodore Front Musical Literature. Its wholesale operations were transferred to the C. F. Peters Corporation.
