Abstract
La colección consiste mayormente en materiales relacionados con los diversos proyectos/obras de Roberto Gottardi y materiales relacionados con sus actividades docentes como profesor de arquitectura. Incluye apuntes, modelos y esquemas, planes de clases y material de estudio, material impreso, correspondencia, material fotográfico, planos arquitectónicos y otros materials.
The collection consists mostly of materials related to Roberto Gottardi's various projects/works, as well as materials related to his teaching activities as a professor of architecture. It includes notes, models and diagrams, lesson plans and study materials, printed material, correspondence, photographic material, architectural plans and other materials.

La colección consiste mayormente de materiales relacionados con los diversos proyectos y obras de Roberto Gottardi, tales como las "Escuelas Nacionales de Arte", el restaurante-cafetería "A Prado y Neptuno", la pizzería "La Maravilla", el "Puesto de Mando Nacional de la Agricultura" y las escenografías "Girón" para la Danza Nacional de Cuba y "Dédalo" para la compañía de Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, así como numerosos materiales relacionados con sus actividades docentes como profesor de arquitectura. Los documentos aparentemente contienen apuntes detallados de sus clases que muestran una práctica didáctica que parece haber reunido conceptos importados y sancionados por el gobierno de Cuba, y exponen la filosofía de diseño de Gottardi. The collection consists mostly of materials related to Roberto Gottardi's various projects and works, such as the "Escuelas Nacionales de Arte", the restaurant-cafeteria "A Prado y Neptuno", the pizzeria "La Maravilla", the "Puesto de Mando Nacional de la Agricultura" and the scenographies "Girón" for the National Dance of Cuba and "Dédalo" for the Contemporary Dance Company of Cuba, as well as numerous materials related to his teaching activities as a professor of architecture. The papers apparently contain detailed notes of his classes that show a didactic practice that appears to have brought together concepts imported and sanctioned by the Cuban government, and expose Gottardi's design philosophy. Included are notes, articles, tutorials, lesson plans and study materials, instructional objectives, papers, lectures, conferences, talks, models, sketches and acetates with architectural drawings and plans. Other materials include correspondence, drawings, certificates, clippings, publications, newsletters and other printed materials. It also includes photographic material (photographs, negatives, slides and photographic reproductions) of Roberto Gottardi, Luz Maria Collazo (his wife), filmmaker Alysa Nahmias who directed and produced the feature documentary "Unfinished Spaces" about the "National Art Schools of Cuba", other relatives, colleagues and friends of Gottardi, projects, scenographies, events, modules, sites and works of art.

Gottardi
Roberto Gottardi nació en 1927 en Venecia, Italia, hijo de Francesco e Ida Folin Gottardi. Obtuvo su título de arquitecto en 1952 en el Instituto Superior de Arquitectura de Venecia. Trabajó en Milán con la firma Belgiojoso, Peressutti and Rogers (BBPR) y luego en Venezuela. En diciembre de 1960 llegó a Cuba invitado por el arquitecto cubano Ricardo Porro, donde residió y trabajó por más de medio siglo. Sucesivamente fue profesor en la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad de La Habana. Gottardi es coautor, junto a Vittorio Garatti y Ricardo Porro, del diseño de las Escuelas de Artes de La Habana, considerada como una de las obras arquitectónicas más singulares de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Otras obras de Gottardi en Cuba son la sede de la Administración Nacional de Agricultura (1967-72), las escenografías de la compañía de Danza Contemporánea de Cuba (1991) y el restaurante Prado y Neptuno (1999). En 2012, el gobierno de Italia le entregó, junto a Porro y Garatti, el Premio Vittorio De Sica en la categoría "Arquitectura", y en 2016 recibió el Premio Nacional de Arquitectura en La Habana. Falleció en La Habana, el 21 de agosto de 2017.
Roberto Gottardi was born in 1927 in Venice, Italy, the son of Francesco and Ida Folin Gottardi. He received his degree in architecture in 1952 from the Higher Institute of Architecture in Venice. He worked in Milan with the firm Belgiojoso, Peressutti and Rogers (BBPR) and later in Venezuela. In December 1960 he arrived in Cuba at the invitation of Cuban architect Ricardo Porro, where he lived and worked for more than half a century. He subsequently taught at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Havana. Gottardi is co-author, together with Vittorio Garatti and Ricardo Porro, of the design of the Havana Schools of Arts, considered one of the most singular architectural works of the second half of the 20th century. Other works by Gottardi in Cuba include the headquarters of the National Agriculture Administration (1967-72), the scenographies of the Contemporary Dance Company of Cuba (1991) and the Prado and Neptune restaurant (1999). In 2012, the government of Italy awarded him, along with Porro and Garatti, the Vittorio De Sica Prize in the "Architecture" category, and in 2016 he received the National Architecture Prize in Havana. He died in Havana on August 21, 2017.
