- Scope and Contents
The collection consists of original drafts of published and unpublished works, manuscripts, proofs, research notes, and other materials related to the diverse literary activities of Pedro Juan Gutiérrez. It includes prose, poetry, essays and chronicles, visual poetry, theater and film scripts, diaries and notebooks, printed material with interviews and texts by Pedro Juan Gutiérrez, clippings, photographs, correspondence, digital files, and other documents.

Pedro Juan Gutiérrez es un escritor, poeta, periodista y artista nacido en Pinar del Río, Cuba, el 27 de enero de 1950. Trabajó como periodista durante 26 años, y en 1998, su libro "Trilogía sucia de La Habana" se convirtió en un éxito de crítica y público. También han tenido notable éxito el resto de sus libros de cuentos y novelas, algunos han obtenido numerosos premios internacionales, incluyendo "Animal tropical" (Premio Alfonso García-Ramos de Novela 2000), "Carne de perro" (Premio Narrativa Sur del Mundo 2003) y "El nido de la serpiente" (Prix des Amériques insulaires et de la Guyane 2008). Además tiene varios libros de poesía, género que cultiva sistemáticamente. Vive en La Habana, donde se dedica a escribir y a pintar.

Pedro Juan Gutiérrez is a writer, poet, journalist and artist born in Pinar del Río, Cuba, on January 27, 1950. He worked as a journalist for 26 years, and in 1998, his book "Trilogía sucia de La Habana" (Dirty Havana Trilogy) became a critical and public success. His other books of short stories and novels have also had notable success, some of which have won numerous international awards, including "Animal tropical" (Alfonso García-Ramos Novel Prize 2000), "Carne de perro" (South of the World Narrative Prize 2003) and "El nido de la serpiente" (Prix des Amériques insulaires et de la Guyane 2008). He also has several books of poetry, a genre he systematically cultivates. He lives in Havana, where he devotes himself to writing and painting. The born-digital materials have not yet been processed, and are therefore not available for research.
For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process.
