Scope and Contents

Consists primarily of correspondence. The bulk of the correspondence contains response to her publications, Beyond the Sea, Swimming Lessons, and Map of Everything; notices and publicity; launch and readings coordination; and endorsement blurbs. Other materials documenting these books include ephemera such as flyers, programs, launch invitations, clippings of reviews, a small amount of design mockups, and a proof of Map of Everything. Other correspondence are from individuals regarding each others' works, book launches, reading events, and individual and publisher requests for inclusion in various publications. There is a small amount of logistical correspondence regarding Fitzgerald's teaching. Correspondents represented in this box include: Kieran McLoughlin, Paul Allen, John McAuliffe, Jessie Lendennie and Siobhán Hutson (on behalf of Salmon Poetry), Nessa O'Mahony, Nick Kennedy, Hélène Cardona, Carlo Gébler, David Wheatley, and Paul Casey, among others.

Appraisal

Four record cartons and two oversized folders of out-of-scope materials were removed from the collection. Deaccessioned materials include newspapers, magazines, and other periodicals; unannotated programs, brochures, posters, handouts, pamphlets, order catalogs, and other ephemera from conferences, events, and organizations; travel tickets, documents, and ephemera; duplicate materials, handouts, and printouts of webpages; financial and legal documents such as jury summons, applications, insurance documents, bank statements, utility bills; and a large amount of personal documents and objects such as grade school uniforms and correspondence, autographs, locks of hair, medical prescriptions, jewelry, and other materials.

Processing Information

This collection was processed by Amy C. Vo in 2022. Where appropriate, materials were rehoused in archival folders and boxes with any creator-supplied titles transcribed. Materials were also rehoused in archival folders and boxes in instances where materials were loose in containers, or binders were damaged.

The collection is open for research, except for a journal in box 7 which will be open after Anne Fitzgerald's death.

Single copies may be made for research purposes. No further duplication of copies of material in the collection can be made when Princeton University Library does not own the original. Inquiries regarding publishing material from the collection should be directed to Special Collections Public Services staff through the Ask Us! form. The library has no information on the status of literary rights in the collection and researchers are responsible for determining any questions of copyright.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
