Consists of reports, correspondence, maps, and some ephemera and printed material of the Portuguese army officer Lieutenant Colonel Fausto Laginha dos Ramos from during the Portuguese Colonial War where he fought for the colonial forces in the wars of independence in both Angola and Guinea-Bissau (then Guiné).
The collection consists primarily of Fausto Laginha dos Ramos's drafts, reports, and memoranda for operations that he conducted, some of which were marked "secret" or "confidential", along with accompanying maps. There are manuscript drafts of his advance battle plans and after-action reports for 20 different counterguerrilla operations in Guinea-Bissau (which includes a few maps), with documents regarding operations, headquarters reports, and mission planning, as well as a few mimeographed soldiers' magazines published in Guiné, including issues from Estrela do Norte and Azimute. There are typescript advance plans and after-action reports for 21 distinct operations in northern Angola, which are accompanied by a couple dozen manuscript maps, a few photographs from when he was assigned commander to Batalhões de Caçadores 2891. The collection also includes a few training and operational manuals from then Major Laginha's time as an infantry training officer in Luanda, Angola, two of which he had compiled and/or edited. There is also a small amount of ephemera such as invitations, event programs, menus, and plans regarding Laginha and Batalhões de Caçadores 2891's departure from Angola and their return to base in Tomar, Portugal.

- Collection Creator Biography:
Laginha dos Ramos
Fausto Laginha dos Ramos ( -2010) was a Portuguese army officer of the 15th Infantry Regiment, who served during the Portuguese Colonial War. He led two Portuguese commando units, Batalhões de Caçadores 1894 in northwestern Guiné (now Guinea-Bissau) from 1966-1968, and Batalhão de Caçadores 2891 in northern Angola from 1969-71. Portugal's Batalhões de Caçadores, or BCaç, were mobile expeditionary units of around 100-200 commandos that operated autonomously in isolated areas far from major Portuguese bases. Upon his return from Angola, he was promoted to Colonel and made the Commandant of the 15th Infantry Regiment at Tomar in Portugal.
