Collection Creator Biography:

Laginha dos Ramos

Fausto Laginha dos Ramos ( -2010) was a Portuguese army officer of the 15th Infantry Regiment, who served during the Portuguese Colonial War. He led two Portuguese commando units, Batalhões de Caçadores 1894 in northwestern Guiné (now Guinea-Bissau) from 1966-1968, and Batalhão de Caçadores 2891 in northern Angola from 1969-71. Portugal's Batalhões de Caçadores, or BCaç, were mobile expeditionary units of around 100-200 commandos that operated autonomously in isolated areas far from major Portuguese bases. Upon his return from Angola, he was promoted to Colonel and made the Commandant of the 15th Infantry Regiment at Tomar in Portugal.
