Collection Overview

Collection Description & Creator Information

Scope and Contents

Comprises 13 letters, three signed black and white portrait photographs, and Atwood's curriculum vitae up until 1986. 11 of the letters are signed by Atwood herself, while the remaining two are signed on her behalf. The majority of the correspondence is between Atwood and Rolando Pieraccini, founder of Eurographica, a Finnish publishing house. Atwood's correspondence with Pieraccini provides insight into her work and relationships with publishers. Also included is a publication agreement for Hurricane Hazel and other stories that is signed by both Atwood and Pieraccini. Other correspondents include journalists Peter Michielsen and Tuula Wikander, Finnish writer Jan Blomstedt, Dorothy Parker (possibly the author), Margery Himes, Peter Vogel, and Siv Lind. Of particular note is an early mention of the upcoming publication of The Handmaid's Tale in Atwood's letter to Margery Himes. The collection includes eight newspaper and magazine articles relating to Atwood. Five are in Finnish and four are in Italian. Also present are two newspaper photo cut-outs of Atwood from Italian newspapers.
