The materials in the section Presidential, Legislative, and Municipal Elections (1993-2000) are arranged chronologically by election and consist mostly of small campaign flyers, posters, and statements of parties' political platforms in the form of small monographs. For the 1996 and 2000 Municipal Elections, the material is divided by region, and within each region can be found first the campaign materials of candidates for alcalde, followed by the campaign materials of candidates for concejal. For the 1993 Presidential Election, 1997 Legislative Election and 1999-2000 Presidential Election the materials are divided by political party. Within each party's file, the campaign materials for each candidate are again grouped together. The materials in each section are not necessarily a comprehensive representation of all candidates and parties or the materials generated by their campaign. At the end of each file, as well as at the end of this section of the microfilm, there is a Miscellaneous file containing material pertaining to a specific election, or to Chilean elections as a whole, that cannot be properly identified for categorization. Such material should not be ignored by the researcher, however, as it still contains much valuable information.

The section Political Movements and Parties (1968-2001) contains serials, monographs, small flyers, and pamphlets published by many of Chile's various political organizations. The publications in this section pertain not to specific political campaigns, but to other political activities and the year-to-year workings of the organizations.This section of this microfilm can seem particularly complicated, simply because of the ephemeral nature of political alliances in Latin America. Movements and parties may change their name, their logo, or their platforms repeatedly. The multi-party political system forces the continual re-negotiation of alliances among parties, and these alliances may be disbanded, reformed, or adjusted from year to year.An effort has been made throughout the microfilm to note relationships among various groups (e.g., Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia (see also Partido por la Democracia, Partido Radical Socialdemócrata, Partido Socialista de Chile)).

The last file in this section, Miscellaneous, contains an enormous amount of ephemeral material in the form of small, single-page flyers, some pamphlets, and the occasional serial. Materials assigned to this file are either published by an unidentifiable organization or an organization for which we have no other materials in this microfilm.Again despite the fact that the file is titled Miscellaneous, the publications in this file should not be ignored. This kind of material may be some of the only evidence available of the diversity and number of small, less well-established political voices in Chile.

The section entitled Political Analysis (1979-2000) contains politically-oriented serials and monographs published by organizations that are not known to be affiliated with any specific political movement or party. Such publications deal with specific moments in Chilean political history, or provide an overview of an aspect of that history.

Government Publications (1981-2000) contains mostly monographs and some pamphlets and flyers published by branches of the Chilean government. Government publications selected for this microfilm deal specifically with political issues, though other materials produced by the Chilean government may be found in most other microfilms dealing with Chile, such as HIV/AIDS in Latin America, Gay and Lesbian Issues in Chile, and other films dealing with human rights or, in particular, General Augusto Pinochet Ugarte. Transcripts of several speeches given by General Pinochet are contained in this section of this microfilm.

A final file in this film, entitled Miscellaneous, contains materials determined to be political in nature but which are otherwise unidentifiable.
