Collection Description & Creator Information
Consists of scrapbooks of newspaper clippings of Curtis' writings for the Chicago Record, 1874-1911, on matters of political and social importance and concerning his travels around the world. Topics covered include the Grover Cleveland campaign of 1888, civil service reform, foreign affairs, tariffs and finances, South America, and the Chicago Exposition of 1893 (Curtis was chief of the Latin-American department). In addition, the scrapbooks contain references to the presidential campaign of William McKinley in 1900 when Theodore Roosevelt was elected vice-president, other miscellaneous clippings, a few pamphlets, typed articles, and scattered correspondence, including two notes by William H. Taft.
