Scope and Contents

The Khuzestan Development Project (Iran) series contains the records pertaining to D&R's development work in the Khuzestan Region of Iran from 1956 to 1979, as well as a small number of projects that extended into the rest of the country. The records predominately document D&R's construction of the Dez Dam and related work with irrigation and agriculture, and also include correspondence files and other records pertaining to the management of the region's development. Please see the subseries descriptions in the contents list for additional information about individual subseries.

Materials separated from this collection include duplicate reports and publications, financial records such as receipts, checks, and payroll slips, and personnel files.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.

A small collection of the papers of geologist Ralph E. Grim, including materials related to his consulting work for D&R on mineral resources in Alaska and abroad, is located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A small collection of the papers of Walton Seymour, including files on his work as an independent consultant and then vice-president of D&R, is located at the Wisconsin Historical Society.

This collection is part of a group of 28 Mudd Manuscript Library collections related to 20th century economic thought and development which were processed as part of a National Historical Publications and Records Commission funded project. Researchers wishing to access these collections should search for the subject "Economics--20th century" or related terms in the Princeton University Library Main Catalog. A collection at the Mudd Manuscript Library of particular relevance to the Development and Resources Corporation Records is the papers of David E. Lilienthal, the chairman and founder of the corporation. Mudd Library also houses the John L. Swift Papers.
