- Description:
Contains papers of McAneny--lectures, reports, correspondence, committee and association files, clippings, scrapbooks, and photographs--referring to his numerous positions in the government of New York City, including president of the Borough of Manhattan (1910-1913), president of the Board of Aldermen (1914-1916), and chairman of the State Transit Commission (1921). Also included are files relating to his work in civil service reform associations (1897-1937) and on the staff of New York newspapers, the New York Worlds Fair Corporation (1935-1940), the Carl Schurz Memorial Committee, and the Regional Plan Association (1930-1940), all of which reflect his special interests in regional and city planning, zoning, city and state transit, and city financing.
Collection History
- Archival Appraisal Information:
Papers of Abraham Jacobi (previously boxes 119-122) were separated in 1992 and moved to the A. Jacobi Papers (C0724) at Firestone Library. Jacobi was noted in a previous version of this finding aid as being McAneny's father-in law.
