Consists of papers of Feighan covering his years in Congress (1943-1971). Of note are records relating to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, as Feighan chaired the House subcommittee dealing with this issue. Other subjects include Cleveland and Ohio politics, particularly the Democratic Party's role.

Feighan, Michael A. (Michael Aloysius) (1905)
Michael Aloysius Feighan was a Democratic congressman from Ohio. Born in Lakewood, Ohio in 1905, Feighan studied at John Carroll University before earning a bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1927. Following Princeton, Feighan studied law at Harvard University, and was admitted to the bar in 1931.
After serving in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1937-1940, Feighan was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1943, in which office he would serve until 1971.
As chair of the Joint Committee on Immigration and Nationality Policy, Feighan was intensely opposed to progressive immigration reform and to the Immigration and Nationality Act championed by the Johnson Administration in 1965, which would replace the Immigration Act of 1924 and eliminate national origin quotas in favor of a preference system based on education and skill. Feighan ultimately compromised with the Johnson Administration by downplaying their preference system based on education and skill for a preference system weighted more heavily to family unification, which Feighan incorrectly believed would continue to encourage white, European immigration. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 would ultimately have the opposite effect, encouraging "chain migration" which would contribute to more ethnically diverse immigration patterns.
Feighan died in 1992.
