For preservation reasons, original analog
and digital media may not be read or played back in the
reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media
but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog
audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality
standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests
are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note,
the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks
to as long as several months and there may be financial costs
associated with the process.
Requests should be directed through the

Materials include a summary of the project methodology as well as survey questionnaires, automated quantitative analyses, resumes and biographies, and clippings. In addition, some files include cassette tapes of interviews.

Several folders did not include any material and were removed from the collection. These folders did include the names of people who were invited but did not participate in the study.

Howard F. Taylor is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Princeton University. Educated at Hiram College ('61) and Yale University (M.A. '64, Ph.D. '66), he taught at Illinois Institute of Technology and Syracuse University before joining the Department of Sociology at Princeton in 1973. Taylor chaired the African American Studies Program at Princeton from 1973-1988. Taylor has published extensively on issues of race, class, and gender bias and their impact on social equality. He served as president of the Eastern Sociological Society and chair of the National Advisory Committee for the ASA Minority Opportunity Summer Training Program (MOST). In 1998, the American Sociological Association awarded Taylor its DuBois-Johnson-Frazier Award, which is given for "academic excellence in the transformation of racial inequality."
