Collection Overview

Collection Description & Creator Information

Collection History

Appraisal

Some personal items and duplicate photographs were separated from the collection and returned to the donor.

Processing Information

The collection was processed by Will Clements in November, 2021. Most of the collection was housed in archival folders, physically arranged, and organized into series. Optical media containing videos, photographs, and other documents were processed according to born digital workflows, and physical media was discarded.

Access & Use

Conditions Governing Access

The collection is open for research use, except for five folders in Box 2 (Foreign Service Employee Evaluation Reports and Application for Retirement) which are restricted during the lifetime of the donor due to the presence of personally identifiable information.

Conditions Governing Use

Single photocopies may be made for research purposes. For quotations that are fair use as defined under U. S. Copyright Law, no permission to cite or publish is required. For those few instances beyond fair use, any copyright vested in the donor has passed to Princeton University and researchers must submit the Publication and Broadcast Form. For materials not created by the donor, in addition to completing this form for Princeton, researchers are responsible for determining who may hold the copyright and obtaining approval from them.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
