- Collection Creator Biography:
Hyamson
Albert Montefiore Hyamson was a British civil servant, Zionist author, and historian who served from 1917-1921 in the Jewish Bureau of the United Kingdom Department of Information and from 1921-1934 in Mandate Palestine as Director of Immigration. Hyamson's advocacy for a single state for Arabs and Jews put him at odds with the political Zionist movement. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1931. Hyamson was the author of a number of books, including A History of the Jews in England (1908); Palestine: A Policy (1942); Palestine under the Mandate (1950).
