Bashkirtseff
Born on November 11, 1858 in the Ukraine, Mariya Konstantinovna Bashkirtseva was the daughter of Russian nobility. She spent much of her childhood with her mother in Germany until they settled in Paris. Bashkirtseva began a singing career, studied art, and is best known for her autobiography in French, Journal of Marie Bashkirtseff (1887). Bashkirtseva died of tuberculosis just before her 24th birthday.
