Typescript of "The Negro in the Western World Theatre" by Randolph Edmonds, circa late 1940s

A typescript of an unpublished book, Randolph Edmond's "definitive history of the Negro in the theatre." In the brief Acknowledgements section, Edmonds references a grant-in-aid by a Research Committee at Florida A College where he was teaching. A Forward was to have been written by Allardyce Nicoll, then a Professor of the History of Drama at the University of Birmingham in England. Some of the chapters include, "White Playwrights and Negro Characters," "White Actors in Blackface," "The Negroes Own Efforts," "Negro Stereotypes," "Negro Bands and Jazz," "The Negro Little Theatre Movement," and other chapters on radio, motion pictures, and music and dance in theatre.

Manzanar Cooperative Enterprises, Inc., Panoramic Photograph of a Concentration Camp in Manzanar, California, circa 1943-1945

Consists of a large panoramic photograph of the Manzanar War Relocation Center, a concentration camp in Manzanar, California, where the United States government incarcerated Japanese Americans during World War II. The image was taken from a tower along the fence line of the camp, likely by an outside photographer, as incarcerated people were not allowed to have cameras. The photograph is copyrighted by Manzanar Cooperative Enterprises, Inc., an organization owned, operated, and managed by the Japanese Americans incarcerated in the concentration camp, per an agreement with the War Relocation Authority dated March 1, 1943. It was likely commissioned by the cooperative and printed by a Japanese American photographic developer, probably Tōyō Miyatake.

Photographs of Manzanar War Relocation Center, circa 1942-1945

Consists of 11 photographs of the Manzanar War Relocation Center taken by Tōyō Miyatake while he was incarcerated there during World War II. Subjects include camp buildings, the camp entrance sign, and fellow incarcerees. Miyatake and Ansel Adams included several of these images in a collaborative exhibit and a book published in 1978. These images were printed after the war and stamped with the name of the studio Miyatake opened in 1947.

The Hamilton Fish Armstrong Papers consist of correspondence, notebooks, memoranda, material from 1945 United Nations Conference on International Organization, writings especially in relation to Peace and Counterpeace and Tito and Goliath, diaries, scrapbooks, and photographs. The papers document Armstrong's career as editor of Foreign Affairs, his participation in the activities of the Council on Foreign Relations, and his professional involvement and interest in foreign policy from World War I through the 1970s. Included is correspondence with many well known political and literary figures of the time period. Some materials of a personal nature are included but the bulk of the papers relates to Armstrong's professional life. The papers also document Armstrong's participation in many philanthropic activities associated with Yugoslavia.

Frances de Chollet (1900-1994) assisted Allen Dulles with obtaining the diaries of Galeazzo Ciano, the Foreign Minister of Italy from 1936-1943, from Ciano's wife, Edda, who was also the daughter of Benito Mussolini. The collection is mostly composed of correspondence written to Frances de Chollet from Edda Ciano, though letters from Allen Dulles and other correspondents are included to a lesser extent. The collection also contains a small amount of de Chollet's notes documenting her face-to-face meetings with Edda Ciano.

Folder 1 contains the following groupings: seventeen letters, circa 1945-1949 (all letters beginning with "Chère Violette Leduc"); twenty-three "rendez-vous" Letters, circa 1949-1971 (beginning "Chère Violette" and "Ma chère Violette"), which are short letters making appointments to meet at cafes or at Beauvoir's home; and two undated letters. The Robert F. Goheen Papers contain records that Robert F. Goheen kept mainly before and after he was president of Princeton University (1957-1972). They include files Goheen kept as a graduate student, instructor and professor in Princeton University's Department of Classics for the period 1939-1957. The collection also contains U.S. army records for 1942-1945, when Goheen had interrupted his studies for service in the Second World War, and for 1945-1956, when he served in the Officers Reserve Corps. The Dulles papers document his entire public career and his influence on the formation of United States foreign policy, especially for the period when he was Secretary of State, and include his correspondence files, as well as his writings, reports, and memorabilia.

The General Manuscripts Collection is largely composed of materials related to United States politics and government, including personal and business correspondence, manuscripts, memorabilia, pamphlets, and reports. The collection includes the papers of many individuals, including Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt and other United States presidents, government officials, authors and journalists, bankers and businessmen, and Princeton University alumni.

Tristan E. Beplat (1912-1997) was a New York banking executive with expertise in international banking. He had a significant role in the economic reconstruction of postwar Japan through his work in the Finance Division of the Economic and Scientific Section, General Headquarters, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers. Beplat's papers document his service in Japan and include memoranda, papers, and reports on the banks and economy of Japan from 1945 to 1948.

The Records of United Service to China, Inc., known from 1941 to 1946 as United China Relief, Inc., document the activities of the organization from the early formation in 1940 to its official consolidation with the American Bureau for Medical Aid to China in 1966. In addition there is a limited amount of material from other Chinese relief agencies that predate the founding of United China Relief / United Service to China. The Records focus on UCR/USC attempts to raise money in the United States, to educate Americans about China and the Chinese people, and to carry on relief work in China. The collection consists primarily of correspondence among the various individuals and agencies involved with UCR/USC, along with other material produced by the agency, such as minutes and publicity material. In addition, the collection includes a series of photographs dealing with China during the 1940s and efforts in the United States to raise money for China during the same period.

James V. Forrestal (1892-1949) was a Wall Street businessman who played an important role in U.S. military operations during and immediately after World War II. From 1940 to 1949 Forrestal served as, in order, assistant to President Roosevelt, Under Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of the Navy, and the first Secretary of Defense. The Forrestal Papers document his service from Under Secretary of the Navy to Secretary of Defense and include correspondence, memoranda, reports, speeches, and press releases.

Though informal fundraising groups acting under the auspices of the Graduate Council had used the name since the 1920s, the Princeton University Fund as it came to be known was officially assembled in 1940 to provide a permanent organization dedicated to annual giving and other fundraising efforts. Also included in the collection are annual fundraising reports, promotional materials and clippings, and organizational charts.
