Collection Overview
Collection Description & Creator Information
- Scope and Contents
The Reproductive Freedom Project subseries primarily documents the ACLU's opposition to legislation that limits access to abortion, and also covers a wider range of topics related to reproductive freedom, notably enforcing federal regulations governing sterilization. The majority of the subseries is composed of case files and research on reproductive freedom in each state. These state files include copies of legislation, court documents, press coverage, ACLU analysis of the issues, and correspondence. The subseries also contains subject files and the correspondence of project director Janet Benshoof and staff counsels Nann Hunter, Judy Levin, Suzanne Lynn, and Suzanne Sangree.
In Subgroup 2, see also Series 3C.7: Equality Before the Law: Women's Rights, 1953-1984 . In Subgroup 3, see also Subseries 2L: Women's Rights Project.
