The Historical Science Files Subseries consists of a compilation of files on various sciences, scientists, and scientific pursuits. The bulk of it appears to have been maintained and referred to by Pendray during his tenure as the science editor at both the Herald Tribune and Literary Digest. Much of the material is printed and appears to have been provided to Pendray by a clipping service. Also included are press releases and a small amount of correspondence.

The Subject Files Series includes documents compiled and maintained by Pendray during the course of his involvement with several aeronautics and astronautics groups and his career in the public relations field. Also included are files on various scientists and related science disciplines, the bulk of which were compiled during Pendray's tenures as the science editor at the Herald Tribune and Literary Digest.

The Articles and Short Stories Subseries contains both fiction and non-fiction writings. The bulk of the documents are typed and annotated drafts though numerous published articles are included as well. A nearly complete run of Pendray's article and short story output is represented here. All of his fiction and non-fiction pieces included here relate in some way to rockets, rocket technology, or space exploration.

The Books Subseries includes both published editions of Pendray's books and documents created during the writing and publication process. Both his fiction and non-fiction works are included. The history of the 1939 World's Fair time capsule and Pendray's book about the capsule are well-documented. Papers documenting Pendray's involvement in the editing of The Papers of Robert H. Goddard, including annotated manuscripts and correspondence with publishers and Mrs. Goddard, are also well-represented.

The Speeches Subseries include Pendray speeches on both rocketry and public relations. The bulk of the rocketry speeches consist of different editions of Pendray's presentation entitled "The Conquest of Space." Pendray spoke on rocketry in a variety of venues, including schools, science clubs, and societies. His public relations speeches were often delivered in front of chambers of commerce and business leagues.

The Memorabilia Subseries contains audiovisual material, printed ephemera, and 3-dimensional objects collected by Pendray. Included are scrapbooks compiled by a clipping service, an award given to Pendray by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a recording of a radio interview, and various photographs and sketches.

The Leatrice M. Pendray Papers document her career as a syndicated columnist. Correspondence, documents related to publication, printed books and articles are included. Writings include a book on diet and weight control co-written by Mr. and Mrs. Pendray and several books of advice literature intended for women. A complete run of Leatrice Pendray's columns, which were published under the pen name Jacqueline Hunt, is also included. Some biographical material and documents dating from the Pendrays' time in Wyoming are also included.

Subseries 2A: Military Correspondence, 1944-1954

The Military Correspondence subseries is divided into two parts. The first grouping consists of letters sent, approximately three a week, by Lanham to his wife from 1944 until the end of WWII. Each letter is several pages long and detail his experiences, observations, and feelings concerning commanding a unit on the frontlines, the Battle of the Bulge, meeting up with the Russian Army, and the immediate aftermath of the war. The second grouping is Confidential SHAPE Correspondence Files, as arranged by Lanham. The letters date from 1950 until his retirement four years later. The folders are a mix of personal correspondence and official military orders and memorandum.

The Subject Files subseries contains subject files pertaining to Lanham's military experience. Included in the files are articles, publications, and correspondence. Several files include information pertaining to individuals, most notably Eisenhower and General Omar Bradley. Also included are transcripts of speeches by Lanham and his 201 file. A 201 file is the official military personnel file and contains documentation of Lanham's assignments, awards, citations, medals, promotions, recommendations, and travel information.

The Military Career series documents Lanham's career, particularly 1944-1954, through articles, letters, speeches, publications, military orders, and his 201 (personnel) files. The series does not reflect his early career, but does have some information on the West Point Class of 1924. There are also a number of published materials including bound volumes of the Infantry Journal, West Point Alumni information, and magazines produced by units Lanham previously served with.

Series 5: Oversized Materials, 1916-1978

The Oversized Materials series contains materials that are too large to fit inside normal record cartons. The appointments, certificates, and commissions grouping contains all official and decorative documents awarded to Lanham for all ranks from Corporal in Second Regiment of the Eastern High School Cadets to Major General in the United States Army. The Awards and Citations found in the papers include scrolls given by American Units and foreign honors bestowed on Lanham, including a French Knighthood and Czechoslovakian War Cross. The series also includes several photobooks and scrapbooks. The photos often have information written on the back providing date, context, and identifying people. The scrapbooks document Lanham's career from 1945 until his retirement and contain various articles, pictures, commentary, and artifacts that detail his experience. Only one incomplete ledger documents 1955-1978. The vinyl records are recordings of speeches given by Lanham or events held in his honor.

The Biographical series includes a biographical sketch, clippings, and identity books for Kent and his wife to allow them to travel through Great Britain in 1919. The series also contains materials from Kent's service on the Council of New York University, a sampling of invitations he received, programs from events where he was the speaker or was honored, and materials from organizations of which he was a member.
