Description:

The collection consists chiefly of Westcott's manuscript material for an edition of Einhard's Vita Caroli Imperatoris (or The Life of Charlemagne). Included is Westcott's transcription of the Einhard text taken from the "Cotton Manuscript" at the British Library, bound in a red, quarter morocco binding with marbled paper and marbleld edges. There are two small notebooks -- one labeled "Vita Kar. Magni" and the other "No. 3" -- both with holograph notes by Westcott, and a third, lined, notebook, with only a few used pages. Another manuscript bears the title "Mss. of Einhard's VITA KAROLI MAGNI as given by Pertz." Also included are some handwritten notecards and a small printed pamphlet by Alfred Holder published in Freiburg, Germany, about Einhard and the Vita Caroli .
